Contact Lens Fitting
Here at The Eye Center, we strive to meet all the visual needs of our contact lens wearers. All of our contacts can be customized for distance only viewing, monovision, or multifocal depending on the individual's needs. Our dedicated optometrist is specially trained in all areas of contacts, including the difficult-to-fit patients. These are the variety of options we offer:
- Soft Contact Lenses: The lenses are soft and made of a flexible plastic that conforms to the shape of the eye. The polymer within the lens is combined with water to allow oxygen to flow through the lens to your cornea.
- Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses: These are small diameter hard contact lenses made of oxygen permeable polymers. They are custom made to the shape of the cornea, allowing for a wider range of prescriptions that may not be commercially available. Because they are hard, they retain their shape well which translates to crisper vision. They are also less likely to harbor bacteria and they resist deposits.
- Scleral Contact Lenses: These are large diameter hard contact lenses are made of a highly oxygen-permeable polymer. They are custom made to rest on the sclera (or white part of the eye) and will vault over the cornea. Because it vaults over the cornea, this is the perfect lens to provide better vision to those with irregular corneas. Corneal irregularities include: severe dry eye syndrome, keratoconus, prior corneal surgery (especially radial keratotomy, or RK), corneal ectasia, corneal trauma, etc.
- Hybrid Contact Lenses: These are lenses with a hard gas permeable (GP) in the center, and soft contact skirt on the edge. It provides the crisp vision of a RGP with the comfort of a soft lens. Hybrid lenses are larger than RGP. Ideal patients include those with keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, post-corneal transplant, etc.
No matter your needs, there is a contact lens option for you to make your life easier!
